The presents have been opened, the dinner has been devoured, and everyone is starting to get fidgety in the post-Christmas slump. Don’t let everyone get bored and restless! Here are our top five things to do between Christmas and New Year to keep everyone entertained.
1. Enjoy the outdoors
The kids might take some persuading to prise them away from new toys, but getting everyone outside for some fresh air and exercise will make everyone feel better after pigging out at Christmas. Go for a walk in the park or at one of these great locations across the UK. Or, if you haven’t already, why not take the family ice skating – the perfect wintry activity!
3. Have a board game night
Dust off the board games and gather everyone together to play family favourites, Monopoly, Scrabble, Articulate…whatever brings out the competitive streak in your family. Don’t have them to hand? You can play great games like Pictionary or Charades with just a pen and paper! If board games are too retro for your family, you can have just as much fun playing together on a games console. Wii fit anyone…?
4. Make thank you cards
The number of children writing thank-you letters has dropped dramatically, from 86%forced to do so when grandparents were young to just 35% today, according to a recent survey by Grannynet. However, it’s still lovely to receive them, and older relatives will be especially appreciative. It’s also a nice way to teach your kids good manners. Make it fun by getting out the arts and crafts and making cute thank you cards. If you’re in need of inspiration, take a look at these easy-to-make thank you cards. Or why not make them using your computer and include a photo of your child with the gift?
One of the best activities that guarantees fun for all the family is to go and see a pantomime. There are loads taking place between Christmas and New Year. We’ve found a great guide to help you find your favourite pantomime near you!
